State of the Art Research Based on Historical Foundations
Martin Luther University Halle-Wittenberg Clinic for Psychiatry, Psychotherapy and Psychosomatics
The Medical Faculty and University Hospital of Martin Luther University are located in Halle (Saale), in the centre of Germany, close to Berlin. With a history spanning over 300 years, it is one of the oldest medical schools in Europe. Furthermore, the word “Psychiatry” was first introduced in 1808 in the University of Halle by Johann Christian Reil. The Department of Psychiatry, Psychotherapy and Psychosomatics of the University of Halle has been around since 1891 and housed famous former scientists like Carl Wernicke. Nowadays, the department consists of 6 wards for over 120 ipatients. It offers a broad spectrum of state of the art research in clinical and basic research. The Department has successfully carried out large multicenter projects in national and international cooperations.
