Data-driven Discovery in Human Genomics and Medicine
Recent developments in medicine and biology have given rise to massive amounts of biological data. The Flatiron Institute's Center for Computational Biology develops advanced computational methods and software systems for making sense of these vast data collections. Through the development of data-driven computational approaches and close collaboration with experimentalists and clinicians, the CCB Genomics group addresses biomedical problems at multiple levels of resolution - from deciphering the genetic architecture of disease, including interpreting regulatory variants in autism and heart disease, to mapping functional networks in neurons vulnerable to Alzheimers or in kidney cells of COVID-19 patients. A key mission of CCB is to make these state-of-the-art computational methods available to biomedical scientists worldwide - this is exemplified in Humanbase.io, a cloud-based, interactive system for data-driven predictions in human molecular biology.
