The Department of Social Anthropology at the University of Oslo is one of the largest anthropology departments in Europe. Having transformed a strong tradition of long-term anthropological fieldwork, they work to develop fieldwork as a uniquely suitable tool to further understanding of our contemporary, changing world. We support ethnographic studies that, through comparison, help us to discover new connections. As part of a vital faculty of Social Sciences, anthropology in Oslo conducts ethnographic studies in all regions of the world. Long-term fieldwork is the basis for new knowledge about the world, with which we all engage, academically or from within other professions.
