New Car Technologies
Pacific Northwest National Laboratory
Interdisciplinary teams at Pacific Northwest National Laboratory address many of America's most pressing issues in energy, the environment and national security through advances in basic and applied science. Founded in 1965, PNNL
employs 4,400 staff and has an annual budget of nearly $1 billion.
PNNL uses its expertise in fundamental science to solve the auto industry’s most pressing
challenges. We begin with the fundamental science, mapping out the chemistry and physics involved; and, building out from these basic building blocks, we develop and deploy next-generation automotive technologies. We leverage this approach across four key areas – energy storage, lightweight materials, emissions, and grid integration.
