Located at the southern end of the San Francisco Bay Area, Milpitas is a progressive and richly diverse community that is an integral part of California’s “Silicon Valley.” As a full-service city of 389 full-time employees with both water and sewer utilities, police, and fire services, Milpitas is home to a population of nearly 80,000, and growing. Milpitas is the eighth-fastest growing city in the United States according to the US Census, and the second-fastest in California. With existing Light Rail and a BART extension opening in 2019, the transit hub adjacent to the Great Mall of the Bay Area facilitated high density transit oriented development with over 5,400 units being built. In June 2018, Livability Magazine ranked Milpitas fifth by out of more than 2,000 American cities for “Best Cities for STEM Workers.” There are approximately 1,450 acres designated for various industrial uses, which are home to approximately 120 manufacturing and technology firms, and 1,087 acres dedicated to commercial retail and office centers supporting 5.6 million square feet of commercial shopping. The Great Mall is the largest enclosed mall in Northern California, with approximately 1.1 million square feet of leasable space for retail and entertainment operations. Several local shopping centers service regional needs including culturally-oriented retail and services.
Throughout all this growth, Milpitas remains home to an industrious and well educated community with an average household income exceeding the County average.
