A historic announcement was made at a news conference at the 2014 ASCB/IFCB Meeting in Philadelphia, PA — the creation of the Allen Institute for Cell Science. The Institute was made possible by a $100 million commitment from philanthropist, entrepreneur, and Microsoft Co-Founder, Paul G. Allen. It will be located in Seattle, Washington. The Allen Institute for Cell Science will take a multidisciplinary, team science-driven approach to understanding a fundamental yet elusive question in cell science: How does information encoded in our genes become three-dimensional living cells, and what goes wrong in disease?
