Turning Geospatial Data Into Actionable Information To Create A Better World
Spatial thinking and literacy is the ability to connect place, space and time. Doing this gives us the power to help address the most challenging global issues, from population growth, to urbanization, environmental sustainability and human well-being.
The Spatial Sciences Institute at the University of Southern California is focused on using this approach to understand and manage these wide-ranging challenges. Through innovative research and academic programs, SSI educates and empowers today’s and tomorrow’s spatial problem solvers to deploy spatiotemporal perspectives and insights across every possible discipline and industry.
Faculty members contribute to the rapidly evolving body of geospatial knowledge and technology. From their home base in the USC Dornsife College of Letters, Arts and Sciences, the team collaborates with colleagues at USC and all over the world. This funded research links SSI faculty and students with decision-makers and citizens - combining knowledge with action.
Through this work, SSI promotes the analysis, modeling and visualization of location-based data through interdisciplinary use-inspired and integrated research and teaching. At the same time, by harnessing geospatial science and technologies SSI is able to foster collaboration, build consensus, reach decisions and take actions to create a better world.
