The pioneering team at the Department of Transplantation and Hepatobiliary diseases at Lahey Hospital in Burlington, Massachusetts has been at the forefront of liver and kidney transplantation since 1983, and currently have the largest live liver transplant program in the United States. Their expertise in both hepatobiliary surgery and transplant surgery is extremely valuable in the fine detailed reconstruction work involved in live donor transplants. Lahey is involved in NIH donor safety studies as well as studies on Hepatitis C, and there is a strong teaching relationship with transplant surgeons of the future through Tufts University Medical School.
