At the heart of the College of Natural Sciences at Michigan State University, the Department of Chemistry works side by side with scientists across campus to focus on attacking a range of problems in complex materials. As part of the Center of Research Excellence in Complex Materials (CORE-CM), this effort includes work in energy materials at the DOE funded Energy Frontier Research Center, NSF funded work in photovoltaics, and the development of the Facility for Rare Isotope Beams, for essential research into materials in extreme conditions. Engaging both graduates and faculty in these cross disciplinary research areas is a recipe for success in both fundamental and applied science.
