Iowa Department of Transportation believes that state DOTs must push past the idea that they are only responsible for building and maintaining transportation infrastructure. They must work to be smarter, simpler and more customer driven and find new and innovative ways to meet the needs of our customers through the strategic use of data and new technologies. Iowa DOT is partnering with both the public and private sector to analyze the freight network demands to better meet the transportation needs of businesses. The agency is the first in the country to work on development of a mobile driver's license that can be used on smart phones. In addition, the Iowa DOT is partnering to develop data-driven solutions that will aid in development of autonomous vehicle technologies.
