This is the premier meeting for professionals in gerontology and geriatrics.

Improving the care and quality of life for older people through accessible, practical evidence-based resources

The Australian Centre for Evidence Based Aged Care (ACEBAC), La Trobe University

ACEBAC’s goal is to improve the care and quality of life for older people living in the community and aged care services, especially older people living with dementia. We do this by understanding the needs of older people, their carers, health professionals, and organisations that provide care services to older people and people with dementia. We generate research knowledge by finding answers to issues which have been identified and then make this knowledge understandable, meaningful and useable to people who are caring for older people - both professional and non-professional (family carers). Working with older people, family members and health professionals to identify caregiving and service delivery needs, we undertake research to better understand these needs and what can be done to address them. Our outputs include accessible, practical evidence-based resources to be used by different stakeholders, as well as more traditional academic outputs – publishing peer reviewed journal articles, presentations at national and international conferences, and the development and validation of tools and guidelines for researchers and clinicians. We also produce resources for consumers such as families and carers, and develop education/training programs for health professionals and care staff to improve care delivery to older people.
