Nearly 100,000 Americans are killed or injured in gun violence every year. This inflicts a heavy toll on families and communities. The Joyce Foundation works with law enforcement, policy makers and advocates to develop common sense gun violence reduction and prevention policies that keep our communities safe. The Joyce Foundation supports the National Law Enforcement Partnership to Prevent Gun Violence (the Partnership) which is an alliance of the nation’s law enforcement leadership organizations concerned about the unacceptable level of gun violence in the United States. The Partnership is working to address the pervasive nature of gun violence and its horrific impact on community and officer safety. The Joyce Foundation funded groundbreaking research by Benenson Strategy Group (BSG) and Lester and Associates alongside a policy roadmap that lays out a series of proposed policy solutions for gun violence based on conversations with community stakeholders in Richmond, VA, Milwaukee, WI, and Stockton, CA. This research, released in April 2016, includes visuals from the polling results as well as images from the convenings.
