Wisconsin Poison Center
Serving People of Wisconsin
The Wisconsin Poison Center (WPC) is one of 55 nationally accredited poison centers and is an important resource in Wisconsin’s public health/emergency preparedness system. Sponsored by Children’s Wisconsin, the center operates 24/7/365 and toxicology-trained nurses and pharmacists manage approximately 40,000 calls annually at no cost to the public. Calls types include but are not limited to occupational exposures, intentional or unintentional medication mishaps, suicide attempts by poisoning, drugs of abuse, chemicals including carbon monoxide, and novel psychoactive substances (NPSs). The WPC has the capacity to play a critical role in statewide emergencies by providing standardized messaging from the Department of Public Health. In addition, the WPC has the capability to collect data for large scale events that have the potential to impact residents of Wisconsin.
