St. Luke's Health System
Reimagining the Role of Behavioral Health in 21st Century Health Care
As an accountable care organization, St. Luke's Health System has charted a course to aggressively pivot from a fee-for-service model to a pay-for-value model in order to realize our two primary objectives: improve patient outcomes and lower the total cost of care. Key to the success of our health system strategy will be our ability to transform our approach to behavioral health care.
Much of behavioral health care at St. Luke's is delivered outside of our specialty mental health services. Our previous approach to providing behavioral health care was not aligned with our health system's transformation. As St. Luke's moves into a population health model and underlying incentives change, a different approach to health care becomes possible. Consequently, we are now able to shift our thinking and begin to view behavioral health as an integrated element in the management of other disease conditions across the continuum of care.
