Origins of Bone and Cartilage Disease
Molecular Endocrinology Laboratory at Imperial College London
Diseases that affect the maintenance and repair of bone joint tissue, including osteoporosis and osteoarthritis are devastating to those affected by them, while treatments are suboptimal. The Molecular Endocrinology Laboratory at Imperial College London is playing a critical role in understanding the impact of thyroid hormone on bone and joint tissue, and understanding better the mechanisms by which these diseases work. Through their development of world-leading bone and joint imaging technology is screening the bone and joint phenotypes of knockout mice, in order to identify new genes involved in bone and joint development and repair and thus identify new drug targets for the treatment of osteoporosis and osteoarthritis.
