Biomedical Research Champion Award
ICE/ENDO 2014
On Monday, June 23, 2014, Endocrine Society President, Teresa K. Woodruff, PhD, presented U.S. Senate Assistant Majority Leader Dick Durbin (D-IL) with the Biomedical Research Champion Award at a ceremony during the ICE/ENDO 2014 Meeting in Chicago, IL. The award recognizes Senator Durbin for his efforts to protect and increase biomedical research funding for the National Institutes of Health. In March of 2014, Senator Durbin introduced legislation called "American Cures Act." The bill would create a trust fund to support a mandatory funding stream for the NIH, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, Department of Defense Health Program, and Veterans Medical & Prosthetics Research Program. The proposed bill is endorsed by the Endocrine Society.
