University of Tokyo, Research Institute for Photon Science and Laser Technology (UTripl)
Fusion of Science and Engineering in Optics (TBC)
University of Tokyo Research Institute for Photon Science and Laser Technology (UTripl) was founded in December of 2017. This organization is an alliance of several existing organizations within the University of Tokyo system, consisting of the Institute for Photon Science and Technology (IPST), the School of Science, Photon Science Center (PSC), the Engineering School and the Laser and Synchrotron Research Center (LASOR) of the Institute of Solid-State Physics. They cover the research fields of laser physics, materials science, and quantum physics. Within the short span of a little over two years, we have already had some outstanding research output and gaining a lot of peer recognition.
In addition to traditional research, we are creating new interdisciplinary research areas in medical science, biological science, and agricultural science, by suitably combining research work in various disciplines and organizations. In addition, for several years we have made significant progress in several joint research and development activities with industry. We believe that these activities emphasize UTripl’s role of providing a platform for innovative and interdisciplinary research involving other universities and industry, both in Japan and overseas.
