“Tradition and Innovatio” - the institute for physics at the University of Rostock (the oldest university in the Baltic area and one of the oldest in Europe) is at the forefront of science. The scientists at the institute work on various topics ranging from optics and photonics, surface and cluster physics to high energy and atto-second physics. Naturally, the PIs of the institute are nationally and internationally well linked and collaborate with more than 100 institutions, universities and companies worldwide. Therefore, the institute is an excellent launchpad for careers either in academia or in industry. And, of course, life in Rostock is very nice. Restaurants, culture, numerous hiking trails, and – last but not least – the beach allow for an excellent work-life-balance.

"By moving us beyond print, and even beyond the web in some ways, and having the Historians TV conference channels running throughout the conference and in the hotel rooms it really helps to give a sense that we're reaching into the future."
